Readers of a nervous disposition, please look away now!

So in my last post reviewing Treasure Island, I featured a photo of my original copy of Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous novel. However, I felt the photo did not do the love I have bestowed on my favourite childhood book justice, so I thought I would share some close ups.

Horrific, isn’t it?!
In my defence the book is nearly thirty years old and it was my emotional support book growing up (that is a long post for another day). It has also had cups of hot chocolate and coffee spilt over it and has journeyed to and from Canada, USA, France and Minorca. There have also been many house moves over the years including several across country. Consequently, it now bears the scars of its many adventures but I refuse to part with it as my partner found out very quickly, when we started seeing each other.
When I first met my partner, he brought me a new shiny addition for Christmas and I love it. However, to my horror almost as soon as I had opened the gift, he suggested that it may be time to ‘retire’ my original copy. This did not go down well and I made it very clear that was not happening under any circumstances and that when you got me, you got the ‘book held together with tap’ too! The state of the book is now a long running joke in our house and you will be pleased to hear that I now treat my books with a lot more care and respect.
